December Day 19 - Fluency Word Wall Set

Can Emergent Readers be Fluent?

I think they can, but it needs to be a strategic plan for fluency.  The very best way to make any reader fluent is - READING!  So what are the reading?  EVERYTHING!  They need to read their poetry folders, their leveled readers, their word wall words, everything.
Fluency can begin with our earliest readers. Picture support and sight word practice can provide lots of fluency practice.

Another way emergent readers can practice reading fluently is using known words in sentences.  At first, fluent sentences are sentences are predictable text with picture support.  Students read the sentences each night.  You can add a timed piece, if you like.  Ask parents to time their students each night and see if their reading is more fluent.  After the beginning stage, students progress to predictable text that rotate between two words.

This set contains 2 in/on fluency sheets and 2 under/over fluency sheets.
