December Day 8 - Poem and Book

Shared Reading

I'm a little crazy about shared reading.  It can be the most integral part of the day.  I'll have to do a full post about Shared Reading in the new year.  These poems, typically 4 lines of text for kindergarten, is rich with word wall words, rhyming, cvc words, and valuable vocabulary lessons.  Not only should it be read daily for a week, the following week it should appear in your poetry center and your art center.  The next week, it can be in the pocket chart center.  Students can use the poems for independent reading and word study feature hunts.
Poems are a great way to meet many standards weekly. This poem and early reader are a great way to start.

And a Book, too.

I've also included a student book.  You won't believe how excited the students will be when they see they know the story and they can read the book.

Both the poem and book are in both full color and black and white.

For now, trust me...use them weekly!  You and your students reap the benefits.
